Boys Try It is a public program at the Leslie Lohman Museum of Art asking the question “When do you feel the most gay? Is it when…”. The program’s identity system interrogates and subverts prominent visual elements of gay culture, specifically the Grindr square grid. The event features two parts, the first being a choose-your-own-adventure style activity aimed at defining one’s gay identity while decentering hypersexuality. The second part is a conversation between the founders of prominent gay publications Gayletter, Hello Mr and Homie House Press.
